Monsoon ventilation without mosquitoes in Maharashtra homes

Monsoon in this state is not a light drizzle you ignore. It is weeks of wet walls, clothes that do not dry, and a house that smells closed if every shutter is down. People open the main door for cross-breeze. At 6 pm the breeze brings mosquitoes with it.

Coils in a wet verandah are a poor trade. You want air. You want a filter on the door.

Why monsoon is harder than summer

Standing water in pots, gulleys, and AC trays means more larvae in the lane. Dusk starts earlier under cloud. You cook more fried food because the weather is miserable, so kitchen doors stay open longer.

A window AC in one bedroom does not ventilate the hall. The hall door to the gallery is the lung of a typical 2BHK. That is the opening that needs mesh.

Iron grill plus mesh

Most Maharashtra security doors are an iron grill plus a wooden or metal inner door. In rain you leave the wooden door open and the grill locked. Mosquitoes treat that as an invitation.

Fit the magnetic net on the inner frame, behind the grill. You still lock the grill. You still walk through the mesh. Rain hits the grill, not the Velcro, if the chajja is doing its job. Wipe the frame before monsoon starts — last year’s dust turns to mud and tape lets go.

Air without a 6-inch gap

The net must reach the floor. During rain, people tuck the mesh up “so it does not get wet”. That tuck is an open airport. If splash is real, hang the net 1 cm off a wet threshold and add a door stopper so the wooden shutter does not crush the magnets.

Do not run a pedestal fan blowing from the gallery into the hall at night with the mesh held aside. The fan should pull air through the mesh, not around it.
