How to accurately measure your main door for a magnetic net
Everdailyindia
Most returns on door nets are not defects. They are a tape held against the shutter instead of the hole you walk through. Magnets only meet if the mesh is sized to the opening, with a little extra for Velcro on the frame.
You need a cloth tape or a steel tape. You need two numbers: width and height, in centimetres. That is the whole job.
Measure the clear opening
Stand in the doorway. Ignore the decorative patti, the weather strip, and the lock plate.
- Width: tape from inner left frame to inner right frame, at chest height. Write the number in cm.
- Height: tape from the finished floor (or threshold) to the underside of the top frame. Write the number in cm.
- Do both again at a second point. Wooden frames are rarely square. Use the smaller width and the smaller height if they differ by more than 1 cm.
Typical Indian main doors: width 80–110 cm, height 200–220 cm. Kitchen and balcony doors run smaller. Do not guess from “standard 7 feet”.
Iron grill, wood, aluminium — where the tape goes
Wooden frame: easiest. Tape the inner rebate. You need 2–3 cm of flat wood on each side for Velcro. Push pins from the kit go into wood after the tape, useful in monsoon.
Iron / metal door with a grill: do not measure the grill bars. Measure the inner painted frame the shutter sits in. Mesh sticks to that frame. If there is no flat inner frame, send a photo — a grill-only opening sometimes needs a wooden batten first.
Aluminium / powder-coated: degrease before you even think about tape. Measure the inner channel edge. Narrow channels (under 2 cm) are the ones that fail. Ask before you pay.
What to enter on the product page
Use the Size Advisor. Enter width × height in cm. Do not convert from inches in your head if you already measured in cm. If you are between two listed sizes, go up. You can fold or trim; you cannot stretch magnets.
Leave the door open while you test. Walk through ten times. The centre magnets should click without you holding the panels.
If the unused net is the wrong size, Perfect Fit covers a size exchange within 15 days. That is cheaper than living with a 5 cm floor gap.
Common mistakes
- Measuring the shutter width (always smaller than the opening).
- Measuring outside the chajja or outer stone, which is 8–12 cm too wide.
- Forgetting the threshold height, so the mesh floats.
- Ordering by “double door” without measuring each leaf’s opening separately. A double door is two nets or one wide net — measure the full walk-through if you want one piece.
Open the premium 18-magnet net and enter your cm. Prepaid. SAVE60 at checkout.
WhatsApp a frame photo if the door is arched, has a jali transom, or sits on an uneven kota floor. A photo saves a return.
